Week of August 21-25

Language Arts
I hope you all had a great summer filled with incredible memories!!  The great thing about 6th grade is that we get to start off running and pick up from last year.

This week, we will begin our district reading assessments.  Our students will complete several assignments using a Reader's Theater story.  These assignments will be completed in class.  The Summer Reading Logs will be due next Friday, August 25th if your child participated throughout the summer.

Our first reading logs will be coming home soon.  This is a shorter quarter so there will not be as many books required.  We will begin/continue with our Wax Museum assignments.  Please mark your calendar for Thursday, September 14th because this will be our Wax Museum evening.

If your child is new to our LC this year, they will have the option to participate with fewer assignments.  They will also have to complete a lot of the project at home.  If your child does want to participate, please email me as soon as possible.

Homework
Please have your child read every evening and make sure they record their books on the reading log.  Homework will be given on Mondays and due on Fridays.

Social Studies

Welcome back LC 7!  I hope everyone had a fabulous summer!

This week, we will be practicing geography skills.  Last Thursday, we discussed the 5 Themes of Geography and completed activities using an atlas.  We will be completing more activities using different types of maps and globes and studying regions and locations. We will practicing finding various locations using latitude and longitude.

There will be no homework this week.
