Week of September 25-29

Reading
This week, we will be working on Literary Text, Theme, Character Traits, and Setting.  We will be review these skills throughout the week by completing various activities.  We will have a Common Assessment next week over this semester's skills for a major grade.

Thank you to all the parents for purchasing the Vocabulary books we are using in our classrooms.  Last week, the students began to work independently at home on a few of the sections, and we are completing the others here at school. We will continue to do this weekly.  

We were so proud of our students for all the hard work in completing their Wax Museum project.  They looked fabulous all dressed up and sharing about their person.  A BIG thank you to all our parents who were able to come up and help our students create their tri-boards!!

Homework
Homework will be given Monday and due Friday. Plus the students will also read page 32 & 33 in Vocabulary book, draw pictures with their words 1-20 pgs. 34-36, and complete Choosing the Right Words pgs. 37 & 38 1-25 (Unit 3).

Nonfiction Reading and Writing
We will begin learning about Literary Nonfiction this week during our Nonfiction Reading and Writing time.   Students will be introduced to different literary nonfiction texts and compare them to their independent reading books.  In grammar and writing, students will be practicing using adverbs.  Students will also begin editing their personal narratives.  

Social Studies 
This week, we will start on our Celebrate Freedom and Citizenship unit. Students will be learning about the principles of government, how people gain citizenship, and how democratic societies balance the rights and responsibilities of individuals.  As we read and discuss these topics, students will complete topic reading notes.

Homework
Geography homework will be given on Tuesday and will be due on Thursday.
